Discover more about the America´s most famous league!

The NFL, more than just an American football league, is a cultural phenomenon that transcends the sport. With nearly a century of history, the league has not only enshrined legendary athletes and produced unforgettable moments but also amassed a multitude of fascinating trivia that enriches its narrative. From the emergence of quirky traditions to jaw-dropping records that defy logic, the world of the NFL is full of surprising facts that show how American football is much more than just touchdowns and tackles.

1. The Origin of the “Super Bowl”:

The name “Super Bowl” was inspired by a children’s toy called the “Super Ball,” which the children of Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt played with. Hunt suggested the name for the season’s final game, and it stuck, becoming the biggest sporting event in the U.S.

2. The 1972 Perfect Season:

The 1972 Miami Dolphins remain the only team in NFL history to complete an entire season, including the playoffs and the Super Bowl, with a perfect 17-0 record. To this day, no other team has been able to replicate this feat.

3. The “Mr. Irrelevant” Draft Pick:

The last player selected in the NFL Draft is known as “Mr. Irrelevant.” This tradition began in 1976, and beyond just being picked, the player receives a week of celebrations in Newport Beach, California.

4. The Game Ball:

NFL footballs are handcrafted by a single manufacturer: the Wilson Sporting Goods Company, located in Ada, Ohio. Approximately 120 footballs are made for each Super Bowl, and around 700,000 are produced annually.

5. A League of Touches and Tackles:

The NFL began as a “touch” football league, where physical contact was limited. Over time, the game evolved to include tackles, increasing the sport’s aggressiveness and appeal.
